The JOURNEY story

"I have only been to church a few times in my life and was always put off b/c I felt I was being talked at instead of talked to and didn't really understand the message. My children have really never attended a service. We were nervous because we thought we wouldn't be comfortable since we have never been "church" people. Every single one of us enjoyed, understood and thought the whole experience was positive. Thank You!"   -- Comments from a first-time guest.

How it all started...

In 2008, Jim and Jodi Clayton moved to Franklin, with a vision to start a church specifically for people who don’t go to church. (They closed on their house in Franklin on June 6, the day before the big flood.) They began networking and building relationships with people while conducting research in the area to determine "unchurched" people’s needs and what they would look for in a church. In th fall of 2008 Jim and Jodi began a Bible study in their home with a handful of people who would later become part of the Journey "launch team." In January, 2009, they rented office space in downtown Franklin and starting having monthly services, in preparation for the eventual launch of Journey Church. After more than a year of preparation, Journey Church had it's Grand Opening on September 27th at Northwood Elementary School in Franklin. After four weeks, we moved to Franklin Community Middle School, where we stayed for over four years. In January, 2014, we moved to Canary Creek Cinemas, where we continued to gather every Sunday until the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020, when we went to online-only services until it was safe to resume in-person gatherings.

Where we are headed...

In 2021, after purchasing and renovating a 15,000 square foot industrial building, we moved into our first permanent facility, located at 3062 Hudson Street in Franklin. We are excited about this next chapter in our story, and we look forward to seeing how God is going to use it to help many more people find and follow Christ!

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:20
